TSMC is in discussions to take over operations at Intel’s US-based semiconductor factories, according to industry sources. The talks follow a request from former President Donald Trump’s team, which has been pushing for increased domestic chip production.
The partnership would allow Intel to leverage TSMC’s advanced manufacturing capabilities while focusing on chip design and innovation. It could also help alleviate the global chip shortage and strengthen the US semiconductor supply chain.
“This is a significant development for the semiconductor industry,” said Michael Brown, a senior analyst at TechWatch. “TSMC’s involvement in Intel’s US factories could enhance domestic production and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.”
However, the deal faces several challenges, including regulatory scrutiny and intellectual property concerns. Both companies have yet to comment publicly on the discussions.
